Vigil remembers man killed breaking up fight among boys

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Family and friends held a vigil Saturday night to remember Greg Moody and to take a stand against violence among young people.

Authorities say Moody was breaking up a fight last month when he was killed outside the family home in Grandview. Prosecutors have charged a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy in juvenile court.

Anthony Winningham watched the tragic events unfold that claimed his father's life.

"If he doesn't take that bullet for everyone in the neighborhood, a baby might," he said. "He was always trying to protect and help somebody and trying to guide them in the right direction. If they were struggling, he would give to his last no matter what. That's who he was."

He said he wants his father's legacy to be preventing violence and helping at-risk youth.

"I just want to say that nobody has to be scared to step up and stand up for what they believe in," he said.
