Woman impaled while at Blue Springs Lake

Posted: Updated:

A woman is recovering at an area hospital after she was impaled while enjoying an afternoon at Blue Springs Lake.

The unusual boating incident happened just before 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The 23-year-old woman's leg was impaled when she jumped from a boat into the water. Her leg struck an underground tree that she didn't see.

Crews had to use saws to free the woman from the stump.

Lee's Summit Underwater Rescue and Recovery boat was launched out on the lake to retrieve the woman. She was brought to the dam where an ambulance was waiting for her to rush her to the hospital.

The woman is expected to be OK.
