Woman killed in Thursday night house fire

The fire department says a woman died from her injuries in a house fire Thursday night.

The Kansas City, KS, Fire Department said the blaze happened about 10 p.m. on Greeley Avenue, between 10th and 11th streets. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the front of the one-story home. 

Neighbors weren't sure if anybody was inside.

Firefighters found a woman at the back of the home. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

A release from the fire department said the victim was in her early 50s.

Firefighters had the blaze extinguished within 15 minutes.

The cause is still under investigation, but it is estimated that it caused about $35,000 in damage.
