COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) -

A runaway SUV crashed into the side of the Colonial Heights courthouse Wednesday, knocking out power to the building.

Court is back in session on auxilary power, while crews work to restore full power to the building. Dominion crews expect to have work completed by 7 p.m.

The SUV had just been detailed at a nearby car wash when an employee tried to move it a couple feet, but was unable to get it to stop, according to sheriffs. The SUV came barreling toward the building, crossing the road and a field and smashing into a power box on the side of the courthouse.

A court clerk says the power box may actually have prevented the car from crashing into the office of the General District Court clerk.

The car wash employee jumped out of the SUV and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. There's no word yet on whether anyone will be charged in the crash.
