Disguised camera found at Hammonasset State Park

State Environmental Conservation Police are investigating after a camera was discovered in a campground bathhouse.

The Fourth of July weekend is one of the busiest holidays for camping and hundreds of people have been at Hammonasset State Park in Madison.

Pedro Cortes saw something suspicious and said something to police.

"You'd never know it was a camera and I looked through the hole and saw a camera lens on it," Cortes said.

Police said that the hidden camera was found in the handicapped bathhouse.

EnCon police found the small video camera, which was set up on the door inside of the bathroom. The camera is the size of a pin hole.

Cortes is a father of two and his family was using that bathroom.

"I was like whoa, I can't believe this is happening to me," Cortes said.

Cortes tracked down police as they were making their way through the campgrounds. Police took the camera down, but there is still a mark on the door where the camera was.

People are describing this incident as creepy and disturbing.

"I just think people are sick. It's disgusting, like why would you want to watch someone shower or use the bathroom or what is the purpose for that," Trisha Eastep said.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News the camera was set up on a hook that you would put your towel on.

"I take my daughter in there. She's a 2-year-old. I take her in here to shower and I don't want her being exposed like that," said Eastep.

Now park rangers are showing people a picture of the camera to warn them.

There are 16 bathrooms on the campground area. Police looked inside the others throughout the park, but nothing was found. Police don't know how long the camera was there for.
