Nineteen new members of the Cincinnati Police Department will be presented with their commissions at a ceremony at City Hall today.
The 103rd recruit class graduates after successfully completing eight weeks of instruction covering all aspects of modern law enforcement.
This group of graduates is a lateral transfer class, meaning they come to CPD from other Ohio law enforcement agencies, they are Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certified, and they have had two years of service with an Ohio police department.
The graduates are just part of a greater plan started by Mayor John Cranley, Police Chief Jeffery Blackwell, and with the help of public safety committee chairman Christopher Smitherman, to curb the violence taking place throughout the districts.
The overall plan includes this lateral transfer class, a new 60-member police recruit class, the creation of a gang unit, and more approved police overtime.
Their first assignment for the graduates will be working with officers at the Reds game on Saturday, July 5, and they will report for work on patrol in Cincinnati's five districts the following day.
For the next eight weeks, they will be paired with a Field Training Officer to complete their training.
The ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. on the third floor of City Hall.
