CATHEDRAL CITY, CA (KESQ/CNN) - A mobile home fire in Cathedral City, CA was deliberately set, by police.

That's right, the police. It was a controlled burn.

They said the home was so full of explosive chemicals that burning it down was the safest way to dispose of them.

Police say it all started Tuesday, when they found the 21-year-old son of a mobile home tenant armed with a pipe bomb.

They found powders used in fireworks, believed to be potassium nitrate and aluminum, along with other explosives, in the mobile home.

Neighbors were evacuated before the burn and health officials were scheduled to monitor air quality.

The man has pleaded not guilty to nine felony counts.
