SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
Massachusetts state troopers will hold a sobriety checkpoint in Hampden County on Saturday, June 28 into the following early morning hours of Sunday, June 29.
State police have not released the name of the road or the town that the DUI checkpoint will be held in.
State police said the purpose of the checkpoint is to educate drivers and strengthen public awareness regarding the importance of detecting and removing impaired motorists.
The checkpoint will be operated during varied hours and vehicle selection will not be arbitrary.
"Safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety," stated a news release sent to CBS 3 from the Massachusetts State Police media relations office.
The checkpoint was made possible by a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
