SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Narcotics detectives arrested four heroin dealers and recovered nearly 5,000 bags and an additional 233 grams of pure heroin, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.

Detectives were investigating a heroin distribution factory in the city's Forest Park neighborhood for several weeks after they found a dealer known as "Laureano" was delivering large quantities of heroin to local dealers throughout Western Mass, Delaney said.

Detectives set up surveillance on Laureano's 108 Groveland St. home and witnessed him make a delivery at the corner of Shawmut and Dickinson streets Thursday. Police intercepted the deal and arrested Laureano and found 1,400 bags of heroin with the "Apple" logo imprinted on them, Delaney said.

Detectives secured a district court search warrant and conducted a drug raid at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at 108 Groveland St. Police recovered an additional 3,424 bags with the same logo on them and 233 gram of pure heroin. Three other drug dealers were also arrested, Delaney said.

Police confiscated $3,853 and a "heroin factory" of paraphernalia used to weigh, cut and bag the highly addictive drug, according to an arrest report.

"Commissioner John Barbieri praised the hard work by his detectives in developing this case that led to the seizure and arrests," Delaney said.

Police charged Sandro Tavero-Mora Jose Ayala, aka "Laureano," 43, of 108 Groveland St.; Fabian Monegro, aka "Yorki," 24, of 11 Acushnet Ave.; Jose Ariel Munoz-Almanzar, 23 of 150 Oakland St.; and Juan Munoz-Vasquez, 28 of 11 Acushnet Ave. with trafficking more than 200 grams of heroin, and conspiracy to violate the narcotics drugs laws, Delaney said.

"This arrest is one of many that will make a small dent in the heroin distribution, and will make others think twice before ‘setting up shop' in this city," Delaney said.

All four men were held on high bail and were scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Friday morning.
