Damaged vans hamper charity's efforts to help community

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

There's been a break in the case of crooks hitting up a local charity organization devoted to helping the less fortunate.

The Don Bosco Center's second van that was stolen has been found, but it is pretty torn up.

Police are asking the community to help track down the thieves who stole and damaged their vans.

For the second time in four weeks, the Don Bosco Center had to track down a missing van stolen off the property.

The first vehicle, a food delivery truck, was stolen on May 24. It was later found, but seats were torn and food and containers that were inside were missing.

Then last week, it happened again.

A passenger van, used to shuttle seniors around town, was stolen. It was found vandalized Tuesday near East Independence and Elwood avenues.

The executive director says it will cost thousands of dollars to repair the damage, and it will hamper the organization's efforts to help the community.

It is unclear whether this was a prank or part of a car theft ring. Either way, it is an inconvenience for the Don Bosco Center that is now without the use of two of their vans.

If you have any information on this case, call police.
