KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

It has been nearly two months since a gunman went on a shooting rampage on the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park. Three people died that day.

One of the victims was 14-year-old Reat Underwood. He was at JCC with his grandfather to audition for a talent contest. Both of them were in the line of fire and later passed away.

Reat thought the ultimate stage would be a Major League ballpark. He always dreamed of singing the National Anthem for the Kansas City Royals. The team made that happen Saturday.

His voice echoed through the stadium as part of the message of hope his family and others are spreading.

The teen's clear tenor voice still brought a smile to his family's faces.

"He's still with us in spirit. I feel him very close right now. That is why I feel so good right now and so emotional. I think he would be very exited," Reat's mother, Mindy Corporon, said.

For Reat's brother, Saturday was a special day.

"It was a dream of his that he wanted to do since he started singing," Lukas Losen said.

However, the dream was never fulfilled because of the shooting that took his life and those of his grandfather, William Corporon and Terri Lamanno. But now, both families have joined together in solidarity against hatred.

"It's really important for us to come together as a united front," said Alissa LaManno, Terri LaManno's daughter.

The anthem was part of a tribute to all three victims and one Reat's mother hopes will inspire others.

"Music touches a lot of people's hearts. We would hope that if people feel moved to go to church or reach out through someone through an act of kindness. You don't need to hate or injure or hurt," Corporon said.

The Corporon family has launched a group called Faith Wins. Click here for more information.
