SEATTLE (RNN) – One person has died in a shooting at a college campus in Seattle.

Police have a 26-year-old male suspect in custody after he allegedly shot four people on the campus of Seattle Pacific University. They say he was not a student at the university.

The campus was placed on lockdown and SWAT teams deployed to clear buildings.

One man and one woman sustained life-threatening injuries. The man, in his 20s, later died from his injuries, the hospital reported. The woman, also in her 20s, is currently in surgery.

Two others were listed in satisfactory condition.

Seattle police said the lone gunman entered Otto Miller Hall, shot his victims and began reloading. A building monitor confronted him and was able to subdue him with pepper spray.

"Once on the ground, other students jumped on top of him and they were able to pin the shooter to the ground until the police arrived," said Capt. Chris Fowler with the Seattle Police Department.

Around 4,000 students attend Seattle Pacific, located about 10 minutes from downtown Seattle.

The school, a Christian university, scheduled a prayer service Thursday night.

"Next step for the university will be to come together as a community. We are a community that relies on Jesus Christ for strength and we will need that at this point in time," said Daniel Martin, president of Seattle Pacific.
