Former basketball coach charged in girlfriend's death

Posted: Updated:

A former assistant basketball coach for the Platte County School District is accused of killing his girlfriend.

Marcus Simms was charged Thursday in Clay County District Court with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. His bond was set at $1 million.

His girlfriend, Michele Boldridge, 31, died from head injuries. According to court documents, a neighbor heard the dying woman's cries for help and contacted authorities.

Simms was covered in blood and naked when he was arrested on April 30 in a vehicle that had been reported stolen. According to court documents, he was seen naked and running around a Kansas City apartment complex yelling, "They're trying to kill me." He allegedly was wearing just a lanyard with keys including one to his girlfriend's apartment, which was found locked and secured when officers arrived after receiving 911 calls.

Simms has refused to speak with authorities and court records did not detail a motive for the murder.
