KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are dealing with two homicides in just 12 hours.

One of them centers around a shooting at East 42nd Street and Brooklyn Avenue.

Police found a male victim dying from a gunshot wound in an alley early Tuesday morning. He was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived.

Someone in the area called 911 about 12:45 a.m. saying they heard shots fired. That was what brought police to the area.

Police have very little information as to what lead up to this shooting. They are talking to neighbors, hoping someone in the area heard or saw something that could help them find any suspects.

The second homicide comes after a man admitted to stabbing his friend to death during an argument.

It happened at an apartment complex in the 9600 block of Lydia Avenue.

Police said the man they arrested told them his friend got angry and stabbed him in the hand and arm first.

So he says he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his friend in the back in self defense, killing him.

It is up to a prosecutor to decide if any charges will be filed.
