KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Two neighbors became embroiled in a dispute Monday afternoon that left one man dead and a second man suffering from stab wounds.

One neighbor was visiting another at their apartment complex in the 9600 block of Lydia Avenue. The meeting turned violent with the visitor got angry and stabbed the resident in the arm and hand.

The 25-year-old resident then stabbed back.

Johnathan D. Olivares, 20, was rushed to the hospital, where he would die from his injuries. The injured man is in serious but stable condition at an area hospital.

Officers were called to the apartment about 3:50 p.m. Monday.

The injured man says he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed back in self-defense. After Olivares was stabbed, he would flee on foot and collapse behind the apartment complex.

Two children were inside the residence at the time of the stabbings, but neither was injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
