"I thought that we were
lucky that we weren't there when it happened because some people were in the
building. It was kind of scary," said Julia Ehrhorn, who was visiting the
park on Monday.
"We were in line towards the
middle of the line to go on Flight of Fear. One of the workers came out
and said that something was happening and we all needed to get out of line and
leave the building."
Jesse Newman of Troy and his brother Joshua,
along with their group, were on a nearby bench when they saw the
unfamiliar sight of emergency crews weaving their way through the park. Not long before that, they rode Flight of Fear.
"It makes me a little shook
up. I would ride it again. I think the administration of the park
would take care of it and it will be all fixed," Joshua Newman said.
Here's a statement Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig sent to FOX19:
"Today, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Flight of Fear roller coaster was shut down after smoke was detected inside the ride. Kings Island emergency personnel responded quickly and guests were safely evacuated from the ride and returned to the park. Initial investigations indicate the smoke was caused by an overheated motor. As always, the safety of our guests and associates remains our No. 1 one priority."
