Columbia man drowns at Lake of the Ozarks after trying to rescue friend

Posted: Updated:

A Missouri man has drowned after helping rescue a friend who fell overboard at the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports a body recovered from the lake on Saturday was identified as 28-year-old Adam Pedego of Columbia.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a passenger riding on the bow of a pontoon boat fell overboard at 10:55 p.m. Friday at the McCoy Branch Cove at the lake in Camden County. Pedego was one of three people who jumped into the water to rescue the passenger.

The patrol says Pedego did not resurface after the passenger was rescued.
