KISS' Simmons and Stanley vs. Actor Eric Stonestreet

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

While legendary KISS rockers were in the Kansas City metro to celebrate the opening of their new restaurant, they also spent time trying to clear the air after an angry online exchange with Kansas City native Eric Stonestreet.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley thought they were making a routine stop in Kansas City to promote their new restaurant Rock & Brews, located at 135th Street and Nall Avenue, but a run-in the night before on the airplane they arrived on has blown up Twitter and Instagram.

"I stand by my word - we are innocent. I was literally asleep for the entire flight and shame on people for lying and using Twitter for some kind of, wow, don't get me started," Simmons said.

Stonestreet from the television show Modern Family posted on social media that Simmons tried to bully his mom out of her seat and, when she said no, he responded "It's OK. I just bought the plane." Stonestreet also posted that Simmons asked his mother for her autograph in a demeaning manner and he accused Stanley of calling her "Aunt Bee," a reference to the older relative and housekeeper character in The Andy Griffith Show.

"Actually I got a tweet from Eric saying that all is well and he's putting his KISS poster back up. It was just a misunderstanding," Stanley said.

Simmons said he has since received an apology.

"This is from an actor named Eric Stonestreet. ‘Take care. I assure u, I will have a stern talk with my mom about making up stories. Old people, ya know? OUR apologies :)' That's on twitter," he read.

While Simmons sees it as an apology, many Twitter followers believed the post to be shrouded in sarcasm.

"Anything you think I did, I apologize for. I stopped and let her get off the plane first because that's good manners. Any case you are invited to our show whenever you want to come and you will be treated like the fantastic mom you obviously are," Stanley said of his message to Stonestreet's mother if she is watching.
