BELTON, MO (KCTV) -

Residents living at a Belton apartment complex say they want something done after a string of muggings at knife-point have them on edge.

Police say the suspect is terrorizing people living at Lakewood Terrace.

"He grabbed me. He had what I believe was a knife to my throat," Kelsey Dawson said.

It was an experience that has Dawson, a young mother of two, still shaking.

"He asked if I had any money in my truck and then started counting to three. Then I pleaded, because I told him I had two kids and please don't do it," she said.

After that he ran off, and Dawson had just one thought.

"My kids ... I was just praying I could get in the house," she said.

Belton police spent Wednesday at the complex looking for more clues. It was the third mugging in the same area in a two-day span - all after 11:30 p.m.

"I'm pretty sure that it is someone that is in this complex," said Betty Borchers, whose daughter lives in complex.

Victims say the man hid behind bushes then jumped out as they left their car.

"If I'm coming home late, I call ahead and have somebody outside," Mona McCullough said.

Neighbors say they won't be going outside after dark again until the man is caught.

"I was 30 minutes late to work this morning because I was afraid to go to my car," Stacy Perry said.

Meanwhile Lakewood management posted fliers warning all residents about the recent muggings. They are also looking into adding more lighting in the parking lots.

As for Dawson, she is now being more cautious.

"Try to make sure someone is here ... anybody from my boyfriend to my dad," she said.

The suspect is described as a 6' tall black male in his 20s with possible dreadlocks.

Police say it is rare to have this many muggings in the same area in such a short period of time.

Belton police are urging anyone that might have information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
