The case against former Sulphur police officer Brian Thierbach is moving forward.

Thierbach made national news in late April when he fatally shot a dog during an arrest. He resigned a little over a week later, while under investigation by the Sulphur Police Department and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said the joint investigation found that Thierbach had "violated the Sulphur Police Department's Departmental Policy and Procedure regarding Use of Force and Personal Conduct and Behavior."

Coats also said the Sheriff's Office would conduct a criminal investigation into the shooting.

That investigation is now over, and the case has been turned over to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office.

The DA's Office said it has received the case and is in the process of assigning an attorney to it.
