Authorities in Leavenworth say they are investigating an apparent homicide after a man was found dead inside a Days Inn.
Ma. Dan Nicodemus of the Leavenworth Police Department said Robert G. Lynch Jr. was found dead about 11:30 a.m. at the hotel, which is at 3211 S. Fourth St. A hotel worker found Lynch's body when he failed to check out.
His vehicle was missing from the hotel's parking lot.
Nicodemus declined to say how police believe Lynch was killed.
"They opened the door and found someone had passed away in the room," Police Chief Pat Kitchens told KCTV5. "It was clear from the scene that it was not accidental. We investigated it as a homicide."
The hotel's owner told KCTV5 that he saw blood around Lynch's body.
Lynch had stayed there for several nights, but hotel workers didn't know if he had any guests with him.
Police had been searching for Lynch's Chevy S-10 but got a big break Friday when a church pastor found it Friday.
Rev. Rob Self said he saw a truck he didn't recognize parked in the ditch across from First Church of the Nazarene.
"No one had been checking on it. I just wanted to make sure that if it broke down the owners would be able to find it and get it back on the road again," Self said.
Police are waiting on complete autopsy results while reviewing hotel surveillance video and interviewing potential witnesses.
"We're working diligently. Hopefully we're making some progress soon," Kitchens said.
