NEW CENTURY, KS (KCTV) -

Thousands of dollars worth of grass seed stolen from a Johnson County roadside project was recovered Saturday.

The seed was supposed to be planted at the Interstate 35-Homestead Lane interchange.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said a park ranger with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks located the seed at Hillsdale Lake while on routine patrol.

All 22 unopened bags of Konza Prairie Grass Seed was recovered. It was worth $28,000.

Detectives believe the publicity that was given to the case led to the recovery of the seed and they hope further information will lead to the identification of a suspect.

Detectives continue to search for the suspects in the case and encourage anyone who may have seen a vehicle in the area of Hillsdale Lake on May 16 or 17 that had a large number of white bags on a trailer or in a truck to call the Johnson County Sheriff's Office at 913-715-5561.
