KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man was rushed to Research Medical Center after gunfire erupted Thursday afternoon in Kansas City.

The shooting occurred about 2:40 p.m. in the area of Benton Boulevard and 46th Street. The man was dropping someone off to attend a funeral at Oak Grove Baptist. The victim was sitting in the vehicle when an unknown assailant drove by and fired up to nine shots into the vehicle.

Chopper5 was over the scene where evidence markers surrounded the SUV that had a shattered window.

The man, who was born in the 1980s, walked into the church, seeking help after two of the bullets struck him. He was rushed to the hospital via a private vehicle. He is expected to be OK.
