Crooks targeting personal items left in cars at dog parks

A fun spring evening romp with Fido is ending up in frustration and anger for some Kansas City residents.

Crooks are breaking into vehicles while humans are walking their dogs at area dog parks.

At least five vehicles were broken into at Penn Valley Park between 7:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday.

One of the victims was Amanda Graor.

"They wanted to strike when the time was right," she explained.

She returned from her walk and noticed the window was down. And she knew she had left it up.

"It's frustrating. I was not far away at the park. I didn't hear anything," she said. "I've got safety glass and it just pops out. It doesn't shatter. I didn't see or hear anything."

Her purse, wallet, student identification card, glasses and more were gone in seconds.

While she was on the telephone with police, another dog owner returned to make the same upsetting discovery.

She immediately canceled her credit cards and froze her bank account.

She knows it was a mistake to leave her purse in the car, but she was trusting.

"It's broad daylight. People are coming and going. I didn't really think that would happen in that situation," Graor said.
