Peeping Tom caught in the act at Overland Park apartment

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Police say a peeping Tom was caught in the act looking into the windows at a gated community home to hundreds unsuspecting students.

A woman who lives at the Highlands South apartments in Overland Park, KS, saw a man dressed in black looking in windows, so she called police.

"I really did think it was secure. You need a code to get in and a fob key to get into the gym area, the pool areas. I think a lot of people might let their guard down here," said Cassie Marquez.

Marquez was one of the many people who felt completely secure at her apartment near 79th and Carter streets.

"I keep my car unlocked sometimes, sometimes I just leave my doors open," she said.

Now that's going to change after police say they arrested 38-year-old Leroy Meuret from Peculiar, MO. He was arrested and cited for window peeping.

Police said they found two pairs of women's underwear in his pocket.

"It's a little scary because my roommate every once in a while leaves the curtains and our blinds open," Marquez said. "That's kind of creepy."

Marquez is a student at The Art Institutes International of Kansas City. The apartments serve as official student housing for the college, making what police say happened that much more disturbing for the young adults who are experiencing life away from mom and dad for possibly the first time in their lives.

Police say the case could be reviewed by prosecutors with the district attorney's office to see if more serious charges are warranted.
