EAST WALNUT HILLS, OH (FOX19) -
The images coming from Nigeria are frightening, disturbing and real. They're also making an impact on students here at home.
"Not a lot of Americans know about these girls and right now there are over 200 girls, 270 from Nigeria that are missing and this happened in April, early April," St. Ursula Academy senior Catherine Corbin said.
At her school, every student at St. Ursula knows about what happened. These days, the school candle under the St. Joseph statue is lit as a sign of support for the missing girls. Every afternoon, students also pray for the kidnapped students and their families.
"It's really part of the mission at St. Ursula Academy to educate the students to be thinkers and leaders and to really help them have faith, integrity and courage," St. Ursula spokeswoman Jill Cahill said.
Daily discussions in class have turned to the missing and kidnapped students.
Corbin also said she hopes it's only the beginning and she wants to do all she can to help.
"So many girls in Ohio are trafficked and so many girls internationally are trafficked," she said. "So what can we do to be able to be together in unity?"
