LEAWOOD, KS (KCTV) -

A child was pulled from a pool in Leawood after a near drowning incident.

Police say a 2-year-old girl was rescued about 5:15 p.m. at a home on West 139th Terrace, just off of Belinder Road.

A family friend told KCTV5 that she and the child's mother were supervising the girl and another child when the girl slipped out of her flotation device. The family friend was it was a split second and a traumatic and horrible event.

When the call came in, the little girl was unresponsive but, by the time police and paramedics arrived, she was alert and crying.

Chopper 5 flew over the scene and showed a backyard pool with water drying on the concrete surrounding it. Toys were also seen on a pool chair.

Police say the child was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
