KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Caves that are located off of Interstate 435 and East 23rd Street were evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a fire.

The fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m.

Kansas City, MO, Fire Department Battalion Chief James Garrett said a tractor-trailer carrying polyurethane located about a mile inside the cave caught fire.

Crews had to run hose through the cave to get to the fire as well as check air quality. They are currently ventilating the caves before allowing people back inside.

No injuries were reported.

The caves in question are the KC Interstate Underground Warehouse and Distribution.
