MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A Rutherford County deputy shot a man after responding to a domestic disturbance Tuesday night.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says deputies were called to a home on West Jefferson Pike about 10 p.m.

The TBI said a woman and her husband had a fight, and she told deputies that her husband then went into a nearby wooded area with his shotgun.

While deputies were searching for the husband, he emerged and allegedly pointed the weapon at them. A deputy then shot the man, hitting him once in the torso, the TBI said.

Nobody else was injured.

The man was taken by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was last listed in critical condition.

The TBI has not released any other information regarding its investigation into the shooting.
