Streetcar construction work happening downtown

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

For the commuters who are hitting the roads Monday morning, there is lots of construction work to know about going on downtown.

Workers have just started working to put in the streetcar plaza stop platform.   It is located on Broadway just before 4th Ave. at Congress St.

The work will happen from now to 5 p.m. each day this week.  Traffic is likely to be slow going on the westbound side because the right lane will be closed to traffic from the Broadway underpass to 4th Ave.

For those who ride their bike to work in the downtown area, they may want to consider walking their bicycle around the construction.

Additional work to be on the lookout for is City Transportation workers working on Congress St. and along Broadway at different streetcar stops throughout the day.  They are making changes to curbs at the streetcar stops.  That means lanes will be blocked off and some areas drivers will not be able to make a right turn.

This work will be happening all week, as the city prepares to roll out the modern streetcar this summer for operation.
