EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- WASH Multifamily Laundry Systems, a leading laundry facilities management service for multi-housing locations, is making the business of laundry more environmentally sustainable with eco-conscious office operations and by offering "green" services to property owners and residents nationwide.

Consistent with the company’s environmental mission, WASH executives have made a personal commitment to reduce carbon emissions by driving electric vehicles. Pictured here (left to right) Ross Van Horne, John Buccola, Adam Coffey, Cathy Jackson and Tomy Joseph pose with their electric vehicles.

"At WASH, our goal is to minimize our environmental footprint as a company and to create meaningful ways for clients and their residents to do the same," comments Adam Coffey, president and CEO of WASH.  "As the company grows, this can be seen in our newly opened Tech Center as well as in the services we offer that enable property owners and their residents to make environmentally conscious choices."

In keeping with this mission, WASH has incorporated eco-friendly features and practices into its new Tech Center located in Rancho Dominguez, Calif.  Appliances and office lighting are energy-efficient, including motion-sensor activated lighting fixtures to reduce energy consumption. Offices are furnished with desks, chairs and other furniture manufactured by local companies from recycled materials. WASH employees and contractors working at the Tech Center have reduced their total commute time, as the office is more centrally located to their communities, further minimizing WASH's carbon footprint.

In the parking area, WASH has installed dedicated charging stations for employees' and visitors' electric vehicles. Consistent with the company's environmental mission, Coffey and numerous other executives have made a personal commitment to reducing carbon emissions by driving electric vehicles.

To reduce energy use companywide, WASH has relocated its servers to a facility that uses ambient air to maintain low temperatures and reduced its server footprint by trimming power consumption by 50 percent.

In its multifamily laundry rooms, WASH minimizes energy and water consumption with the latest laundry machine technology. As an ENERGY STAR Partner, WASH offers energy-efficient commercial machines that prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

WASH also makes the environment a top priority with special programs and educational tips offered to its common-area laundry customers. At universities and colleges, WASH promotes the Green Laundry Campus Program, which helps to reduce the environmental footprint of campus laundry room operations by encouraging natural resource conservation and carbon emission reduction. In multifamily laundry rooms across the country, WASH advises clients with tips on how best to "green" their laundry rooms with regular dryer vent-cleaning and rebates for water-saving devices.

WASH property owners and residents also make a difference simply by doing their laundry in a common-area laundry room. A national study revealed that residents of apartments with in-unit laundry facilities used three times more water for laundry than residents who use on-property common area laundry facilities. The same study showed that in-unit laundry uses five times more gas and electricity than those in common area laundry rooms.
