A woman, critically wounded Monday in what police are calling a domestic-violence related murder-suicide, has died.
Police say 29-year-old Adoria M. Verser of Kansas City, KS, died from her injuries Wednesday.
Kansas City, KS, police said 27-year-old Shefrin T. Smith was having an argument with Verser in the parking lot of Faith City Church at 5100 Leavenworth Rd. about 7:40 a.m. Monday.
He began to chase her before shooting the woman four times, according to witnesses. Smith then killed himself in front of their 8-year-old daughter, witnesses say.
Verser was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition where she died days later.
There is no motive as to why the shooting happened, police said. Authorities have not released the relationship of the two.
Kansas City, KS, Public Schools said nearby Welborn Elementary, located one block away, was placed on a lock out and not a lockdown, because the shooting happened outside of school property. The lock out was lifted about 8 a.m.
The shooting remains under investigation.
