KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

KC Pet Project is asking for help to pay for surgery for a 5-month-old pit bill found abandoned and severely injured.

Forest needs surgery to fix his legs. Someone found the puppy, which had a nasty wound on his back leg. His two front legs are also hyper-extended and crooked because of a birth defect.

He needs surgery as soon as possible so his legs can grow properly, and he can walk normally again.

"He is 5 months old, so he is still a growing pit bull puppy. We are hoping that he can get the surgery that he needs so he can grow up and be a normal, happy, healthy dog," said Tori Fugate with KC Pet Project.

The surgery will cost about $6,000.
