Clarksville police have a suspect in custody after a mother of three was stabbed to death inside her own apartment.

The quiet and seemingly peaceful Miller Town Apartments on Jack Miller Boulevard was met with unbelievable tragedy early Wednesday as neighbors say they were awakened just after 2:30 a.m. by the screams of two little boys pleading for someone to save their mother.

"They said, 'Can you call the police? The guy has a knife, and he is trying to hurt my mom! He said he is going to stab her,'" said neighbor Kenneth Chambers, who took the boys in after the stabbing.

The boys' mother was identified as 37-year-old Nancy Lowry.

Clarksville police said Lowry was stabbed multiple times in her apartment by 21-year-old Joshua Black. The boys told a neighbor he's a family acquaintance.

"The little boy told me he was just a friend who would come over there all the time trying to talk to his mother," Chambers said.

The mother of three was taken to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital where she died.

Black is currently jailed in Montgomery County without bond on a charge of criminal homicide.

The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Eric Ewing at 931-648-0656 Ext. 5447.
