Apartment resident, good Samaritan injured in apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

A woman was seriously injured when her apartment caught fire, and a man who helped rescue her was also injured.

The two were taken to area hospitals, authorities said Monday night.

The fire broke out before 9 p.m. Monday at 1304 S. 32nd St.

KCK Assistant Fire Chief Craig Duke said the fire caused about $5,000 in damage to the 11-unit building. He said most of the damage was contained to the apartment where the fire started.

He said the 56-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and was rushed to the hospital. A man who kicked in the apartment door to get to the woman and pull her out was taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

The cause is under investigation, Duke said.

About 20 people live in the building.
