The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office is investigating after a report of animal cruelty. A witness says a man purposely ran over a puppy.

It happened Tuesday around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Hubbard Lane and Hillside Lane. The witness reports that a man in a blue van or SUV traveling southbound towards Penniman Road put a small tan pit bull puppy on the street from the vehicle. The suspect then purposely accelerated and ran over the puppy.

The puppy died soon after the crime.

The suspect is described as a 30 to 50-year-old black male with short, curly hair. He was driving a Navy blue van or SUV with a distinctive thick, white stripe around the vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888 LOCK-U-UP.
