KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

The man accused of slamming into a van with a mom and three children inside, killing a little girl, while fleeing from police has been charged with murder.

Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman charged 27-year-old Tyrone Murphy Jr. of Kansas City, KS, with first-degree murder on Friday.

Wednesday night Murphy was pulled over for not wearing his seat belt, when he sped off. He ran a red light at 63rd Street and Leavenworth Road in KCK and broadsided a van carrying the family, police said.

Jasmine Rodriguez, 7, was a passenger in the van and she was killed in the wreck.

Murphy is also charged with possession of cocaine, a felony charge of eluding a police officer, and three counts of aggravated battery because of the injuries to the driver and two other juvenile passengers in the Dodge Caravan.

The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision.

Murphy is currently in the Wyandotte County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.
