Lockdown caused by armed person at Warrensburg High School ends in suicide

Posted: Updated:

An armed person temporarily caused a lockdown at Warrensburg High School. Police cleared the situation about 9 a.m.

Warrensburg Superintendent of Schools Scott Patrick said that about 7:45 a.m. Friday a staffer witnessed man with a long gun in the school's parking lot. The school was immediately placed on protective lockdown.

Warrensburg police were notified, and they pursued the individual, who had left the parking lot in a green Ford Explorer, into the town.

The vehicle was located by officers traveling northbound on Maguire Street near Jefferson Street and police stopped it near Maguire Street and Clark Street, next to a car wash.

As officers took position, waiting for back-up to arrive, they heard a gunshot inside the vehicle. They found the man inside dead from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

Police say the man was an 18-year-old senior at Warrensburg High School.
