KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A Northland crash has left one man dead.

The single-car wreck happened about 5:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Northeast 72nd Street and North Brighton Avenue.

Kansas City police say the driver failed to stop for the stop sign and went through the intersection when he lost control.

They think the man is in his early 20s and believe speed was a factor.

"That is an issue with younger drivers. They fail to realize that when it comes time to stop, cars don't stop as quick as you think they do," Capt. Donna Greenwell said.

Authorities have not yet released the driver's name.
