Truck crashes into central Toledo home after hitting SUV

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police are investigating after a pickup truck and SUV crashed, sending the truck into a central Toledo house.

According to Sgt. Pete Lavey, a yield sign was down on the ground, causing an SUV to not stop. The pickup truck did not stop because there was no stop sign. After the initial crash, the truck lost control and drove into the home on Hamilton Street by Miller Street.

"My whole apartment upstairs shook. I had things falling off the walls and tables," said one resident inside the home, who was sleeping at the time. "I'm not surprised, because they fly through here all the time. The yield sign is not up -- not sure if it was down due to construction on my street or what the case was, but I know that it wasn't up. But, they fly through here all the time without no regard to kids, stop signs or anything."

Police say speed was not a factor in the crash, because the SUV traveling down Miller did not see the missing yield sign.

"I'm sure our investigators will do what they need to do, but I'm not seeing anybody getting cited right now at this time," said Lavey.

Two residents were home at the time of the crash, but only one was injured. The two drivers also suffered minor injuries.

The city's transportation department says no report was sent regarding the yield sign, so they were unaware it was down.
