Tornado Watch issued until 9 p.m. Thursday - KCTV5

Tornado Watch issued until 9 p.m. Thursday

Posted: Updated:

The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for areas southeast of the Kansas City metro Thursday. It's in effect until 9 p.m.

KCTV5 Chief Meteorologist Chris Suchan says the warmer temperatures and fairly high humidity levels are, unfortunately, a favorable combination to develop and strengthen heavy thunderstorms.

"Later this afternoon, a cold front will be approaching from the west with an advancing area of low pressure and should be one of several trigger mechanisms I've identified to initiate storm development," he wrote in the KCTV5 weather blog.

The areas of most concern are from the metro and to the east and southeast into central Missouri and extreme eastern Kansas south of Kansas City.
