OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Firefighters say an unfortunate placement of an emptying propane tank likely caused a fire in Overland Park Tuesday morning.

Crews responded just before 11 a.m. to a house fire in the 10000 block of England Drive.

First crews on the scene reported a propane tank in the driveway on fire and fire in the garage of a split-level home.

Everyone was able to get out of the house safely, and no one was injured. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, which was contained to the garage.

There was smoke damage throughout the house. Damage is estimated at $20,000.

The resident reported that she had set some old propane tanks in the driveway and opened them to let them empty.

However, they were close enough to the garage that the propane entered the garage and found an ignition source at either the furnace or water heater, firefighters said.

Authorities remind everyone that propane tanks should only be emptied in an open space well away from all sources of ignition.

The propane tank is believed to be the cause of the fire, but investigators are still working to confirm.
