An 18-year-old Manhattan woman has died after falling from a 10th floor balcony.

Arizona investigators say Naomi McClendon appeared to be intoxicated when she fell to her death from a Tempe residential building.

They have surveillance video that shows her stumbling as she came home to her apartment.

Investigators are not releasing surveillance video just yet, but say it shows two people helping her home. They say she appeared intoxicated when she stepped out on her balcony alone.

"When she gets to the balcony, it looks like she straddles the railing," Sgt. Mike Pooley said.

That is when Pooley says McClendon started to fall asleep.

"She lays down, half of her body on the railing and the other half dangling," Pooley said.

When she laid down on the railing, she started to slip, police say.

"She tries to catch herself, and unfortunately, it was too late," Pooley said.

Authorities say both Tempe fire and police responded to the scene to investigate the fall and treat McClendon for injuries. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

Pooley said there was no evidence it was an intentional act but rather a terrible accident.

McClendon's Facebook page says she was a student at Arizona State University. Her parents both work for a school district in Manhattan, KS.

KCTV5 News reached out to the McClendon family but haven't heard back.
