The cloudy conditions and choppy waters made for some
great fishing Saturday, so it was the right timing for the Hooked on Decatur
It was the third
annual Team Bass Finishing Competition which serves as a fundraiser for the Wounded
Warrior Project to assist injured veterans. North Alabama's best got out early
to hit Ingles Harbor in Decatur.
While anglers competed on the water, more good continued
on the dock. Lifesouth Community Blood Centers reeled in donors to step up and
help. Donations supply nearly all of the blood used by hospitals in North
Alabama. Organizers said collecting donations alongside Wounded Warriors was a
"A lot of veterans have had situations where they have
been recipients of blood products, or they have had loved ones that have, so
they realize the importance of blood donations, and keeping our hospitals
supplied," said donor recruiter Cherry Hammonds. "So it's a natural fit for us
to be out here with them."
The blood drive also honored Jimmy Copeland who died in a
motorcycle accident in 2012. His passenger survived after receiving more than
200 pints of blood.
