Posted: Updated:
PLATTE CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Hazardous material crews have been called to a rural area in Platte County after reports of a tank leaking a highly irritating gas with a sharp, suffocating odor.

Witnesses say an 800-gallon tank is leaking anhydrous ammonia in a field at Humphrey's and North Farley Road.

The leak was reported about 1 p.m.

At this time there are no reports of evacuations.

Anhydrous ammonia has many uses. Its most extensive use is in soil fertilization.
