Utility work to interrupt traffic on part of I-16 over weekend

Posted: Updated:
CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Georgia Dept. of Transportation will have periodic traffic paces in effect on Interstate 16 on Saturday and Sunday while Georgia Power crews install overhead utility lines.

The operation will take place on I-16 between I-516 and I-95 in Chatham County.  Local authorities will be pacing traffic in both directions at 20 mph beginning eastbound at I-95 and westbound at I-516, weather permitting.

Authorities will be positioned on the entrance ramps to I-16 at Dean Forest Road and Chatham Parkway to prevent traffic from entering I-16 during traffic pace.

Several paces lasting about 10 minutes will occur throughout the weekend. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes if possible.
