TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The man accused of two Toledo firefighter deaths appeared in two courtrooms Thursday on two sets of charges.

Ray Abou-Arab faces two charges of trafficking a controlled substance, along with 13 charges in connection to the deaths of Privates Stephen Machcinski and James Dickman, including aggravated murder.

Abou-Arab is accused of intentionally setting fire to an apartment building he owned in north Toledo back in January. Machcinski and Dickman died fighting that fire.

On Thursday, Abou-Arab first appeared on murder charges. It was learned that motions originally filed by the defense were not done correctly and need to be refiled. The prosecution says it will finish its discovery in three weeks. At that point, the defense will review it. Since the entire process could take six weeks, the next pretrial was scheduled for May 1.

The judge ruled both sides need to be notified any time there is testing done at the scene. Testing has been difficult up until now because of freezing temperatures and snow.

After the first courtroom appearance, Abou-Arab headed to another courtroom to face another judge. However, his arraignment on the drug charges did not happen and was instead pushed to April 7. His bond was set at $15,000 with no 10 percent on each count.
