About half of 200 positions remain for new Walmart in Henrico

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

If you are looking for a new job, Walmart is hiring for its new store slated to open this spring. But you better hurry, because only half of the positions offered are still available.

The Walmart Supercenter that frustrated neighbors for months will soon open at Reynolds Crossing off West Broad Street.

"We're looking to hire 250 associates," says Christopher Pratt, the Walmart store manager.  "To have these positions available for these potential new hires to provide for their families so that they as well as the community that shops there can save money and live better."

This is the same Walmart that caused months of controversy for the Charles Glen neighborhood right across the road. When it was all just woods neighbors didn't want this store here, but it happened anyway after promises of making it different: more high-end and smaller.

Some people have also changed their minds about the store.

"I didn't like it coming here at first, because it was going to bring too much traffic. Too noisy," says Eryka O'Herron. "Now that it is coming, I'm excited. It's a lot easier and closer to get to."

It's the convenience that's winning some people over and making this the fourth Walmart in Henrico.

The company also operates an employment program for qualified veterans who have been honorably discharged within the past 12 months.

Walmart is accepting applications at 6605 West Broad St., Suite 102 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can also apply online at http://careers.walmart.com.

The store is hiring both part-time and full-time positions. Walmart says most positions will start in April for the grand opening of the new store.
