Stabbing at Lawrence shelter leaves 1 in critical condition

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man is in critical condition after he was stabbed inside a shelter in Lawrence.

The 46-year-old man was stabbed in the throat by a 21-year-old man, Lawrence police said Thursday.

The shelter is at 3655 E. 25th Terrace, and it occurred about 3 p.m. Thursday in the shelter's dining hall.

The injured man was rushed to a Kansas City area hospital. The suspect was taken to Lawrence's hospital for a mental evaluation. He was later released and booked into jail for attempted murder.

Other residents helped break up the attack, police said.
