KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating the death of a man who was found shot in his own home in the Northland.

The gunshots that echoed down the 800 block of North Kansas City Avenue Monday night were still the talk of the neighborhood the following day.

"I heard a pow pow pow pow pow and about that time, a couple minutes later, I heard police cars come down," said neighbor Mike Hewitt.

Investigators remained at the scene through the night and much of the day on Tuesday after someone called 911 to report they heard gunshots. When officers arrived, they found one man dead inside the home. Officials are investigating the shooting death as a homicide.

Family members who came to the house did not wish to speak on camera, but confirmed the victim's name is Clite Weibel. His neighbors say he was a quiet man who kept to himself.

"I feel bad for him, you know? Seemed like a pretty nice guy," said neighbor Mike Leeper.

Neighbors say Weibel ran a smoke shop inside the Super Flea thrift store, located at Belmont Boulevard and St. John Avenue. They said he'd been concerned about home security in the last few weeks.

"About a month ago he had a window broke out, had to put burglar bars on it. Someone was giving him trouble, I don't know who," Leeper said.

"It's a little unnerving, yeah. It happens all the time around here," Hewitt said.

Kansas City police are already investigating nine homicides so far this year. Crime scene tape surrounded the home for much of Tuesday as police continued to look for more evidence.
